Our Roehampton Moodle Learning Management platform now runs on the latest Moodle 4.1 point release which has better stability and security. The overall look and feel of the site theme has been changed providing a new refreshed look with the aim to increase student engagement and accessibility.

If you are new to using Moodle, please take sometime to view the sections below to give you a quick glance on navigation, access and editing your modules to help you getting started in using Moodle at Roehampton.

Login page

  • Login page: If you see the Moodle login page, click on the Log in link on the top right of the page to login. Please note, you will be automatically signed into Moodle if you are signed into the university’s network via single sign-on.
    If you have been provided a manual login by IT please click the Manual login page link on the Access information card as shown in the screenshot below.
  • Newly added Information cards: You will find some newly added information cards on the login page and on the Home tab providing you with information on how to access Moodle, an orientation video if you new to Moodle, help guides and other key information.
  • Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ): You will find a FAQ section below the information cards on the login page to help you trouble shoot any login issues.

My Modules (Landing page)

  • My Modules (Landing page): As soon as you login to Moodle, you will be directed to your ‘My modules’ page where you will find all the modules you have been given access to. If you are logging into Moodle for the first time, you will be prompted with a User tour.

    If you do not find the module you are looking for please check the Course Overview filter is set to show ‘All (Including removed from view)’.

Dashboard page

  • Dashboard page: The Dashboard page is your personal space where you can find any upcoming assignments, recently accessed modules and a calendar. You can click the Edit mode on the top right of the page to move the blocks around to customise this page to your requirement.

    You can click on ‘Find a module’ below the recently accessed courses to search for a module as shown in the screenshot above.

Accessibility toolbar

  • Accessibility toolbar options: You have an option to enable the Accessibility toolbar to display for you at the top of your Moodle site to change the font type, increase/decrease font size, 3 different text contrast types and screen modes to help you with the accessibility of your Moodle site.

Home page

  • Home page: The Home page is now newly designed to include the information cards that might be helpful such as a short Moodle orientation video to get you started. You will find information about our eLearning help guides on using Moodle and other learning tools such as Turnitin, Class Collaborate, ePortfolios and ReCap/Panopto.Other key information include a link to access the Nest portal your home for all things student support at Roehampton and a link to the Turnitin twitter page to keep track of Turnitin status and any performance updates.

Accessing your modules

  • Accessing your modules: You can access your modules from the My modules page. Click on the thumbnail of the course to take you to the module page.
    If you need to search for a module you can either click on the Search field in the Course overview or expand the right collapsible column to find the browse modules.

    If you try to access a module but get the following message saying ‘You cannot enrol yourself in this course’ means you do not have access to that module and need to contact Moodle support.

Getting around your module page

  • Getting around your module page: Your module page has a collapsible course index on the left-column and a collapsible blocks menu on the right-column. The centre column is where you will find all the teaching content. If you are an editing teacher you will have an option to click on the edit mode on the top right of the page.

Editing your module page

  • Editing your module page: If you are a teacher or an administrator in Moodle, you will have the capability to edit your module page.
    Click on the Edit mode on the top right of the page to start editing.

    Click on Add an activity or resource

    and choose an activity or resource from the popup to add to your module page.
  • In edit mode, you can also delete, copy or move activities to organise your module page. Please add the Mass actions block to easily manage your content.
