L&T conference, Turnitin emails and advice: eLearning Services Staff Newsletter #5

Spring 2016
eLearning Services Staff Newsletter #5

This week’s news is mostly focused on Turnitin again. If you’re lucky enough to be finished with your marking, or you need a break, we’ve also got some inspiration for you with information about the eLearning team’s presentations at the L&T conference tomorrow.  Hope to see you there!

Turnitin iPad app – important information

The Turnitin iPad app is a great tool for marking on the go.  However, to avoid any issues, you should ensure that you continually sync your data with the Turnitin server as sometimes data can be lost, the synchronisation can fail, or a mark can be accidentally overridden. If you’re using the app during this busy marking season, make sure you are aware of these issues so you don’t lose all your hard work.

Come and see us at the Learning and Teaching Conference

The eLearning Services team are presenting at the Roehampton’s Annual Learning & Teaching Conference 20.4.16. Crystal Cooper is presenting ‘Tracking Student Progress and Engagement in Moodle‘ and Noor Abdulghani is presenting ‘Using Nearpod to interact with students’. Book your place and attend our workshops.

Turnitin bug – email submission notifications being automatically sent to Teachers

Teachers are receiving submission notifications via email whenever a student submits to a Turnitin assignment. We are waiting for Turnitin to release a fix. In the meantime, we have a workaround that will stop your mailbox filling up.

Resit Assignments in Turnitin – comparing a student’s new submission against their original submission

Turnitin normally excludes submissions made by same student in the same class. However there is a way to re-include these matches. This is especially useful to the teacher grading a resit assignment since it allows them to compare the new submission against the original submission.
