Launched – Turnitin iPad app

Launched – Turnitin iPad app

Turnitin have launched the Turnitin iPad app that allows users to mark work and view student originality reports. The eLearning team are aware that several staff have downloaded the app and are currently using it.  We are at present not promoting the app and are only able to provide support on a best effort basis. We have created a user guide to assist staff in using the app. However, as with any app, we expect updates to the app will be frequent and as such we are not able to always fully test or provide the latest guides or information relating to the app. We advise staff to sign up to Turnitin directly for updates, FAQ’s and the latest guides.

More information about the app can be found on the Turnitin webpages: http://turnitin.com/en_us/features/ipad To keep informed, subscribe to Turnitin’s System Status alerts at http://www.turnitinuk.com/en_gb/support/system-status and on Twitter to @TurnitinProduct)

We would also like to advise users that several issues/concerns have been raised with regards to the use of the App and users should be aware of these. More information about this can be found below.

Issue 1: Synchronisation problems

Issue: Users have reported problems when trying to sync papers downloaded on to their iPad with the main Turnitin server. We are aware of one instance where a marker has lost all of their marking due to this problem – http://blogs.northampton.ac.uk/learntech/2014/01/14/marking-using-the-turnitin-ipad-app-handling-synchronization-problems/

Advice: We advise users to frequently ‘Sync’ their iPads with the main Turnitin server to minimise any loss of data. Turnitin are aware of the issue and are working to resolve the problem.

Issue 2:  Multiple markers marking work submitted to one assignment area

We are aware that there are instances where several markers will be marking work submitted to a single submission area (assignment). This may lead to problems with users overwriting each other’s comments, grades and feedback.  More information about this can be found in the Turnitin iPad user guide.

If you have any questions with regards to the Turnitin app. Please contact your Department’s eLearning Adviser.
