hp-hero-mvtDid you know that eLearning Services subscribe to the web-conferencing software Cisco Webex? Webex allows users to conduct online meetings combining real-time desktop sharing with phone and video conferencing. The presenter simply requires a headset and mic and a webcam. Online meetings can even be accessed via mobile devices and tablets/iPads too.

Our subscription currently allows up to 25 concurrent users to participate in a meeting. Once a meeting is scheduled you can invite others to participate via email. Participants simply click a link in an invitation to join you online, where they’ll get visual prompts to join the conference. Once you’ve started your session, you simply choose “share” from the menu to share documents, presentations, and applications. Meetings can even be recorded and shared online afterwards.

So far lecturers have used Webex to meet distance learning students for tutorials or to arrange meetings with overseas students, who have expressed an interest in their course as part of the recruitment process.
